
Peter J. Shaughnessy, MD
Dr. Shaughnessy is a Board Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon with fellowship training in hand and upper extremity surgery. Dr. Shaughnessy earned his undergraduate degree at Duke University in Durham, NC. He graduated valedictorian from the University at Buffalo School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences and went on to complete his residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center. Dr. Shaughnessy then completed a fellowship in Hand and Upper Extremity Surgery at NYU Langone Health in New York City which included microvascular training. He practiced hand surgery in Waterbury, CT before joining The Hand Center.
Dr. Shaughnessy’s professional interests include complex upper extremity trauma, arthritic conditions of the hand and wrist, peripheral nerve surgery, and arthroscopy. He has published on wrist fusion techniques and wrist arthroscopy. He has presented video techniques on tendon transfer surgery and small joint arthroscopy at the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons annual meeting. Dr. Shaughnessy is a candidate member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the American Society for Surgery of the Hand.
